Rosemary Sutcliff :The Eagle of the Ninth

 This is one of my FAVORITE authors. Rosemary Sutcliff writes more of historical fiction,but the time periods are from 100A.D.(Roman/Britain) to medieval times. Probably her most famous book is 'The Eagle of the Ninth'.It is the first book of the Roman Britain Trilogy,and the first book of the Aquila Family Ring Cycle.The Eagle of the Ninth(AKA The Eagle)is about Marcus Flavius Aquila,a Roman Corhort Centurion.He goes into the wilds of Britain(along with his slave,Esca) to find out what happened to his father's legion,The Hispana,which disappeared 20 years earlier,along with 5,000 elite Roman soldiers,and their treasured Eagle standard.The Eagle was the symbol of honour,and if it was lost,then all was lost.So Marcus wants to find it,thus restore his family's honour.It is one my favorite books ever.They have made a movie out of it,which comes out February 11,2011.It is directed by Kevin Macdonald and is starring Channing Tatum (as Marcus)and Jamie Bell (as Esca).They shortened the name to just 'The Eagle'.This is the link for the official trailer for the movie.ENJOY!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SItBFjaLArU
