Make it up!

Hey guys,
So  this a blog on book reviews and movies, but I came across this amazing hair channel on YouTube, and I felt compelled to share it. This girl(well she's 22),Kaley, is very helpful in making up gorgeous 'do's, and the instructions are wonderfully clear. I know I love this channel. :)

the Girl who could Fly

Piper McCloud can fly. Just like that. Easy as pie. Problem is, the good folk of Lowland County are afraid of Piper. And her ma’s at her wit’s end. So it seems only fitting that she leave her parents’ farm to attend a top-secret, maximum-security school for kids with exceptional abilities. School is great at first with a bunch of new friends whose skills range from super-strength to super-genius. But Piper is special, even among the special. And there are consequences too dire to talk about. Too crazy to consider. And too dangerous to ignore.

I loved this book. It was so sweet, and different, almost like a cross between Little house on the Prairie and X-men.  The plot was pretty original, and the writing was well done. It made me think of The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stuart, so fans of that amazing series will probably enjoy it. Overall I give it 8/10 :)

Project A

In late 19th Century Hong Kong the British may rule the land, but the pirates rule the waters. Reluctantly, the Coast Guard is given money to fight these pirates, but the pirates themselves have many contacts (that is, bribed officials) in the government, and seek to thwart the Coast Guard's efforts to eliminate them. One Coast Guard officer is Dragon Ma, who is determined that his beloved Coast Guard will not be made fools of.

That is the plot of Project A, a film directed and starred in by Jackie Chan(the martial arts master!).
It was released in 1983, and is rated PG-13 for violence. The violence is kung-fu, martial arts, etc.., and is rather comically done, but there is one scene when a man gets shot in the head, and some blood is shown.
But Jackie Chan (aahhhh!!!!!) did all of the stunts ( and trust me, they look like they hurt. ALOT.) and they all looked pretty awesome. There is also very comical dialogue; it was originally shot in chinese, and has english overlays. Well, what can I say but, I hope you will enjoy this film* as much as I did and ADIEU!

"Those Frenchies seek him everywhere. Is he in Heaven? Or is he in Hell? That demmed Scarlet Pimpernel!"

I started The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy and I could not put it down. It was amazing.
The plot is so suspenseful(I thought fairly fast-paced as well), and the characters are marvelous. I won't tell you who the Scarlet Pimpernel is, but I loved how she introduced her main people several chapters in. I wonder why doesn't Hollywood make the Scarlet Pimpernel Broadway, since they've gone on a Broadway spree? I would adore that. Though the plot for the show is slightly different then the novel's, it would still be very neat if they did. Cheerio!

The Harvester by Gene Stratton-Porter

The Harvester( aka David Langston) lives with his dog,Belshazzar(Bel), the woods of Indiana, in a cosy cabin, and he harvests and cures herbs for a living. But one night he has a vision of a girl. The girl of his dreams. He and his "wonderful, alluring" Ruth ultimately find idyllic bliss in the pure, unspoiled woods, but not before her mysterious past is revealed and resolved.

I truly loved the story. David is so sweet(you wish every guy were like that), and Ruth is lovely.

But Gene Stratton-Porter is such a "nature" writer. She lived in Indiana around a swamp, and when she needed inspiration, she would just go into the swamp, and always got it. The nature parts were so nice to read, it was written in such a way that it wasn't over descriptive, just perfect so you can picture it well in your mind.
